No Malta for Me?

My brother and I, way back in the early summer, when we thought travel would happen again in early 2021, planned a week long trip to Malta. Malta is one of those places I’ve long wanted to go, but never found the right time. Steven found a great deal, and we hopefully booked the trip for late February 2021. Guess what happened this week? You guessed it, the trip was cancelled, because Malta will be upping its travel restrictions again. I completely understand, but am so disappointed….for now. Maybe in the fall we will be able to go, or maybe 2022. Anyway, its still on my list.

Having a great trip like this cancelled made me nostalgic for trips I’ve taken in the past. It especially made me think of the last big trip I had before COVID-19 struck (literally right before, we got back to Chicago March 3, 2020). My friend Lori and I spent 10 days in Paris, Lisbon, and Brussels. The train from Paris to Lisbon was actually a ton of fun. We had a sleeper car, and an hour long transfer in a small town on the French/Spanish border to switch from the French rail system to the Spanish. We found a bar across the street from the station and went in to grab a bottle of wine and some snacks for the overnight part of the trip. The bartender couldn’t have been cooler, opening the wine, putting it in a carrybag of ice, and giving us a couple of glasses (plastic, but no matter) and wishing us Bon Voyage…We had to carefully trundle it across a rather rickety board bridge over a construction ditch to get back across the street to the station (keep in mind this is 10 pm in February in a small town somewhere we’ve never been). Ahhh…the days of traveling to other places, meeting other people, and experiencing other parts of our world.

Soon….

Where do you dream of traveling?
