Fantastic time Cruising the Yucatan Peninsula

In mid January, 2022, we had a fantastic time cruising the Yucatan Peninsula with American Queen Voyages. Although the purpose of the trip was not to learn (honestly it was to get away from midwestern winter), we did learn a lot about Mayan culture, architecture, and traditions.

First night

The trip began in Cozumel, Mexico. We had an overnight stay at the Intercontinental Hotels Group resort Presidente, which was gorgeous to say the least.

It was a ways out from the city center, but we didn’t even need to leave the property for our visit. There were restaurants and bars to choose from, both indoor and outdoor. We found the happy hour special (of course). I had the best octopus ceviche I have ever had.

We enjoyed the sunset sitting out at the outdoor café, and after a fairly long day of travel, really enjoyed the down time.

The next day, since we were not leaving until late afternoon, we swam in the pool and the ocean, and enjoyed a cocktail on the beach. Not a bad start to a vacation, I’d say.

First day at sea

Once we got on board the Ocean Voyager I, we set sail, and went north and then west around the Yucatan Peninsula. I have to say, it was not super smooth sailing, so I was glad for my SeaLegs seasick medicine.

The first day was a sea day, and we seemed to be wandering aimlessly around the Gulf of Mexico. I’m sure the captain was not wandering, but with no land in sight, it sure felt that way to me. The sunrise was gorgeous, and the warm sunny skies made it a perfect day for reading on the deck and relaxing.

We headed to Campeche for the first of two days in that quaint little Mexican town, located on the north side of the Yucatan Peninsula.

More on that in the next post!!
